Thanks for your interest in participating in DcD’s 2019 production of The Children’s Nutcracker! This years performances are November 29th, 30th & December 1st with a mandatory dress rehearsal on Saturday, November 23rd. We encourage all of our dancers to be a part of this very special holiday event. At DcD we believe that performance is an intregal part of dance training and it is also a lot of fun for our dancers! Please read through the information below to see if your dancer(s) want to be a part of this magical, fun-filled weekend.
Auditions will take place on Saturday, August 10th, 2019.
Non-Company Participation (Ages 3 and up*): The Children’s Nutcracker is a fun performance opportunity for all ages at DcD. The cost to participate at this level is $200 and that includes rehearsal time, costume rental, theater rental and a cast t-shirt. All dancers who audition will be cast in a role. Participants will be cast in either both of the noon shows or both of the 4:00 PM shows.
*Dancers 9 and up not wanting to participate in Company, Apprentice or Jr. Company can sign up for this level and will be cast in only 2 performances. Please enter a note when registering to let us know.
Company, Apprentice and Jr. Company (Level 1 and up): Our student company programs were created for those dancers (Level 1 and up) who want to make a stronger commitment to our overall program and performances. There are larger commitments to rehearsals (Dancers cannot miss more than 2 rehearsals), performances (Dancers are cast in all 4 Nutcracker performances) class attendance (Dancers are required to attend at least 2-3 technique classes per week) and ticket sales (Dancers must purchase at least 12 tickets to use or sell. Dancers failing to meet the ticket requirement will be billed by DcD after the show dates for the balance. The theater will be tracking ticket sales.)
Tickets will be available to purchase directly from the venue on October 1st. There will be assigned seating at these performances and we recommend purchasing the tickets as close to the release date as possible to ensure your seating is grouped together and you get the best seats possible. Phone and online ticket sales will incur additional costs so we recommend purchasing your tickets in person at the venue as close to October 1st as possible to avoid these costs and get the best possible seats.
Dancers and parents are required to co-sign a Company Contract agreeing to the additional commitments. The total cost to participate at this level is $400, not including the 12 tickets purchased through the venue. This cost is split up in 2 installments; $200 online sign-up fee due prior to the audition date of August 11th with the balance being automatically deducted from your CC on October 10th, 2019. If you are interested in joining one of our student companies, parents and students please read through the following general information first, followed by the Company Contract upon signing up to make sure you are fully aware of the commitments involved. The age breakdown is as follows:
Level 1 and up at time of audition are cast as Jr. Company Dancers
Ages 11-12 at time of audition are cast as Apprentice Company Dancers
Ages 13 and up are cast as Company Dancers

Auditions: The Children’s Nutcracker auditions will take place on Saturday, August 10th at the DcD Studios at 1958 Elm St. Please make sure to log in to your account and register for the appropriate participation prior to that date. The sign-up fee is the first of 2 installments for Junior, Apprentice and Company Dancers. When making this initial payment, you will be prompted to set up the remaining installment to be automatically charged to your credit card on October 10th. Your account with DcD must be current to audition. This includes Summer Tuition and Past due tuition from 2018-2019. The following is the Audition schedule:
Company dancers (13+) 12:00-1:00 p.m.
Apprentice Dancers (11+) 1:00-2:00 p.m.
Jr. Company dancers (9+) 2:00-2:45 p.m.
Intermediate Level (7+) 2:45-3:30 p.m.
Elementary Level (5+) 3:30-4:00 p.m.
Pre-Ballet (3+) 4:00-4:30 p.m.
Casting: All casting decisions are final! It is unacceptable to question the Artistic Director or any employee of DcD concerning roles dancers are cast in. We will not engage in any correspondence regarding casting. Dancers need to learn to accept their roles graciously as it takes an entire cast of dancers to put on a successful production.
Rehearsals: Rehearsals are every Saturday at the DcD Studios, following this start schedule:
All Student Company members (Level 1+): Starting August 24th from 11:00 AM to 4:00 PM
Intermediate Level (7+): Starting October 19th from 12:30 PM-1:45 PM
Elementary Level (5+): Starting November 2nd from 3:00 PM-4:00PM
Pre-Ballet Level (3+): Starting November 9th from 12:30 PM-1:30 PM
Communication: DcD uses this site along with email for communicating with our parents. It is crucial that you are a member of this site and to have our app installed on your phone to receive the most current and accurate information.
Purchasing Tickets for the Performances: Tickets for the performance cost $25 and includes free parking. Tickets will be available through the box office of the theater. The Cultural Center seats 320 and all tickets are assigned seating. Tickets purchased online will incur a $5 charge per order and an additional fee $2.75 per ticket. Phone orders will incur a $5 charge per order. We recommend purchasing the tickets in person at the venue to avoid these costs, beginning October 1st.
Theater Location: The performances take place at The Lakewood Cultural Center (470 South Allison Pkwy. in Lakewood, CO) on December 8th and 9th. There is a mandatory dress rehearsal on Friday evening, December 7th.
Volunteers: At DcD we realize that we couldn’t possibly pull of this amazing set of performances without the help of our parent volunteers! There are plenty of opportunities to help out throughout the weekend. From assisting back stage getting dancers ready to helping decorate the lobby there are lots options to help out! We use Sign-up Genius to organize our parent volunteers.
